3 easy self-care tips for busy Mums - Lup Wai

Since giving birth to my kids, I have totally neglected myself. I mean, come on, the kids and the house have already taken up all my energy, where would I get the energy to even take care of myself?  People told me to sleep whenever my kids are taking a nap BUT the problem is while they are napping, that's the BEST time to clean up; when no kids are running amok in the house!

But as days passed, I became more and more frustrated with everything around me. I would start yelling and screaming for every tiny little reason. That's when I realised, I need a break. I needed to care for myself in order to care for the little ones.

Trust me.

I struggled with self-care when I first tried to implement it into my daily life. I felt guilty whenever I took time to have a cup of tea, or when I took a breather whilst throwing some toys for the kids to entertain themselves. Yet, I see the changes in both myself and my kids.

Our relationships got better.

We don't fight as much as before. I don't behave like a barbaric mum screaming my head off as much as before. My kids are now looking up at me telling me how beautiful I am. I have become a REAL. HUMAN. BEING.

I want to be their good role model, and now I am being just that - I'm sending the signal that we all need time for ourselves and we deserve it, and in turn they are internalising that self-care matters.

Here’s how I get started on my self-care routine:

TAKE A BREATHER, SIP A HOT CUPPA
Make yourself a hot drink and get comfortable at your favourite corner or in your cosy armchair. Take in a deep breath, take a sip and a few minutes to yourself to calm your mind.

STAY CONNECTED TO YOURSELF
Block out 30 mins or an hour of your time at least once per week and pursue your hobbies. If time permits, do it daily. You may journal your feelings or gratitude. You may meditate. You may read your favourite book. Whatever it might be, take the time out to make it happen consistently. Remeber as our kids evolve, we evolve as well, and we need to stay connected to our inner-most passions to keep us alive and happy.

MOVE YOUR BODY
Breathe in fresh air and release all the negative energy from your body. Dance together with your kids if you don’t have the time to head out for a walk. Do a 20 minute Pilates session in the morning from Youtube, take the kids to the park - there are endless options and taking this time will really help your mental wellbeing!

Hey mama, if you think self-care is guilty as charged. Let me tell you, you are worth it.
